A Few Quotes

I've been collecting these few quotes in a small notebook, and then I put them up on a different website because I didn't want to use paper I could otherwise use for school. And now they're here :P

Found with the help of the internet

Women have a passion for mathematics. They divide their age in half, double the price of their clothes, and always add at least five years to the age of their best friend.

-Marcel Achard

I have six locks on my door all in a row. When I go out, I lock every other one. I figure no matter how long somebody stands there picking the locks, they are always locking three.

I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do.

-Heinlein

We, the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much, with so little, for so long, we are now qualified to do anything with nothing.

-Anonymous

Shallow men believe in luck. Strong men believe in cause and effect.

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

(no offense)

We spend the first twelve months of our children's lives teaching them to walk and talk and the next twelve telling them to sit down and shut up.

Various songs

Will you be fire? I'll be ice

[...]

Will you be day? I will be night

She said, "nothing ever happens

If you don't make it happen

And if you can't laugh then smile"

Listen to the music of the moment people, dance and sing

[...]

And it's our God-forsaken right to be loved

There are places I remember all my life

Though some have changed

Some forever, not for better

Some have gone, and some remain

I'll teach you how to ride the stars

Now if only I could quote the instrumentals...

------------------

Various books/novels

"So...like, you're lyin' on the battlefield with an arrow for a decoration, and everybody homes in on it like a beacon and they start pryin' it out WHILE you're conscious, and you're thinkin' "Ahh! Don't trouble yourselves, just leave it in there for goodness' sake! I got it first, it's mine! Don't touch it! I can use it to hang stuff on and--aahh!" And then when you finally faint from all the pain, they shake you and shout your name and try to wake you up, and you're thinkin' "Heeeeeeell no, I ain't comin' back to that! Why d'you think I fainted in the first place?!" Then they get all frantic-like and such and start hollerin' "Don't die on me, man!" and you're thinkin' "The only one gonna die here is you if you don't quit shaking me!""

Freedom is the freedom to say two plus two makes four

Beginning this very moment, I am a happy person, for I now truly understand the concept of happiness. Few others before me have been able to grasp the truth of the physical law that enables one to live happily every day. I know now that happiness is not an emotional phantom floating in and out of my life. Happiness is a choice. Happiness is the end result of certain thoughts and activities, which actually bring about a chemical reaction in my body. This reaction results in a euphoria that, while elusive to some, is totally under my control.

Today I will choose to be happy. I will greet each day with laughter.

What happens once will never happen again. But what happens twice will surely happen a third time.

Today is a time for remembering and a time for looking forward, but more than anything, it is a time for living, a time that exists between yesterday and tomorrow for whatever purpose you design.

All words are written in the same ink,

"flower" and "power," say, are much the same,

and though I might write "blood, blood blood"

all over the page, the paper would not be stained

not would I bleed.

'What is this?' sad the Leapard, 'that is so 'sclusively dark, and yet so full of little pieces of light?

The idea hovered and shivered delicately, like a soap bubble, and she dared not even look at it directly in case it burst. But she was familiar with the way of ideas, and she let it shimmer, looking away, thinking about something else.

Darkness always had its part to play. Without it, how would we know when we walked in the light?

All I need is a sheet of paper

and something to write with, and then

I can turn the world upside down.

True, I talk of dreams,

Which are the children of an idle brain,

Begot of nothing but vain fantasy,

Which is as thin of substance as the air

Zodiac

I read an article a few months ago about the Zodiac changing because of the stars moving. If you were born supposedly a Libra, better start looking at Virgo, because that's the actual constellation in which you were born.

Capricorn: Jan. 20-Feb. 16.
Aquarius: Feb. 16-March 11.
Pisces: March 11-April 18.
Aries: April 18-May 13.
Taurus: May 13-June 21.
Gemini: June 21-July 20.
Cancer: July 20-Aug. 10.
Leo: Aug. 10-Sept. 16.
Virgo: Sept. 16-Oct. 30.
Libra: Oct. 30-Nov. 23.
Scorpio: Nov. 23-29.
Ophiuchus: Nov. 29-Dec. 17. (Here's a bit about this new constellation, a man wrestling a serpent)
Sagittarius: Dec. 17-Jan. 20.

I know it's all over the internet now, but I was using StumbleUpon and I happened across it maybe three months ago, and it was this pretty cool website where you'd plug in your full birthday (month/day/year) and it would calculate if your sign changed or not, and then it would give a detailed explanation as to why or why not. This is the closest thing I could find to that: didmyzodiacchange.com
It'll take you here if you click to learn more, but all that's here is a comparisson between the "older" and "newer" zodiac.

And then there's this article, which goes a little more in depth than most other articles I've seen: Voices.washingtonpost.com
I think I like this link better, because it delves in deep about the changing of the signs. The other site just explained everything on the surface.

Really though, I don't understand the big hype about it. The only reason I'm writing this is because I find the science and history behind it fascinating.
The way I see it, it's not going to change who you are or what your day is going to be like. My zodiac predictions were never correct to begin with.

"Rest assured, though, your horoscopes will not change as scientists have known about this change since 500 B.C. Tarot.com astrologer Jeff Jawer says, 'Western astrology is based on equinoxes, so if you were a Cancer last week -- you're still a Cancer'" - Syracuse.com

Leaves

I feel like I'm flipping as much as leaves do as they flutter to the floor. No, I am not bipolar; I'm not talking about my emotions, thank you very much! I'm talking about what I want.

Tonight I was a falling leaf with cookie dough. To eat - or not to eat... That is the question! Cookie dough is the key to my heart, I'm telling you right now. Give me some cookie dough and you're set for life!

Oh if only cookie dough were the most of my falling leaves! For the moment, I'll let it be. Tomorrow morning - that's when I'll accept the more difficult leaves... Like finals I'm not prepared for.

Wish me luck,
L.

This is L.

I suppose this is just the inside of my mind for whenever I feel like updating. I have the Letters to the President blog, but that's for specifics. This is just a bit of everything.

My parents made blogs before I did. Just like they both had their own facebook pages before I did.
I'm not a 21st Century child, it would seem.

I just got back from Travis's going-away party. I don't want him to leave... I won't have any contact with him until late April. He won't be his own person until the same day. He will be a number, a recruit, and nothing more.

I met a bunch of his real family (I say "real family" because he calls me his sister, my dad his father, my mom his mom and my brother his brother, but we are not blood-related to him) at his party. They're all very brilliant, nice people. I also met his recruiter. She's young, probably no more than two years older than Trav. But she's really nice. I tried to be mad at her, but it was futile from the start. I liked her as soon as she and I were introduced.

My parents laughed when I told them that.

Travis's grandmother is going to be at my graduation. I hope I get to see her more than I have since Trav graduated; I only really saw her at my brother and Trav's football games. Now that there aren't any more games for the boys, I don't get to see her often. She's a sweet woman, right down to her core.

Anyway.
It's getting late and I desperately need to study for finals (yaaayyyyy...) so.

Having completed my random thought, this is L. signing off!
